Emma was sitting on the couch, trying to watch T.V. She couldn't help but feel as if she didn't belong here. Sure, she had stolen some things, broken into some houses, and she was part of the reason as to why her best friend was now dead, but honestly, Franklin High? The judge took it to the extreme. She felt like a baby all over again. What could she possible do here? How could she get away with anything? Emma yawned as she re-positioned herself, laying down, taking up all of the couch. Crappy T.V, yay. She looked sharply to her left as she heard someone else enter the lounge. Raising her eyebrows, she watched them as they came in.

Kit glanced around the room, taking in quickly from who was in. Deciding not to spin and walk out as she usually did she walk to one of the large comfy chairs, jumping over the arm and landing cross legged on the seat. Her leg muscles flexing obviously through the brightly coloured socks for a second as she made a jump that most people would have faltered on, she’d made it cleanly and hadn’t even brushed the sides. Clenching and unclenching her hands lightly she forced herself to lean back and her mind onto the inane occupation that is – daytime TV.
Sliding her hands into the top of her socks she withdrew a tic-tac box, chucking two into her hand and crunching down on them like sweets. Good thing about headaches – people give you painkillers for an actual reason, it was very handy. Secondly, no one thinks mints are anything other than mints.
Idly she turned her head towards the person taking up the entire of the sofa, Kit had not noticed her until just them so she gave a nod of recognition – trying to be polite. People talked at you if you weren’t polite and if you were unsocial. It was aggravating. So it was worth a shot. “So, why are you torturing yourself with daytime TV?” she drawled the words out slightly, not quite removing her gaze from the box.

Emma was deep in her own thoughts when she heard a voice, other than the television speak. Realizing that the girl sitting the chair was talking to her, she pieced together what the girl had asked. After thinking for a few moments she finally replied. "There's nothing better to do. It's either this or walk along the halls like a deranged person." Not that I'm not one, Emma thought to herself.
"Have any better ideas?" Emma asked to the girl, as she examined her finger nails and sighed to herself.

Kit grinned slightly as she gave the girl a glance over. She was new so she was trying to commit as many people to memory as possible. A general tactic she employed where ever she went. It also help that she had a near photographic memory. She didn’t remember names – but general attitudes she could match up with appearances. It gave a helpful hand if she had to deal with anyone in the future. Even if they had utterly forgotten who she was, she usually remembered them if it had only been one meeting before.
“Not really, this place isn’t exactly full to the top with fun activities that we can immerse ourselves in now is it?” she signed deeply, tapping her fingers on her legs quick in a tense, possibly irritated fashion, she looked around the room again. As much as this place was better than home, she still felt caged.
”You know – if you watch this stuff long enough – you’ll end up walking around deranged any way. I’m sure it’s the reason some people are here, either that or it drove them to murder someone. Both equal possibilities.” she grinned to herself. More than speaking to the girl, she was speaking to herself in truthfulness. A past habit of hers that had started to resurface now. At least she was trying to be sociable though – that had to be worth something...

Emma reached over to the remote, on the coffee table, and shut the television off. It was no use wasting electricity for something that wasn't being used, even if she didn't pay the bills around here. She may be be greedy and at times wasteful, but global warming is above her.
She looked over to the nearby window, just in front of the couch and glanced outside briefly. It was such a nice day outside and she was cooped inside. Maybe she would go outside later... She started to twirl her hair as she started to ramble, half-talking to herself.
"Eh, I wasn't really watching it anyway. I would much rather just lay here and pretend that I'm doing something productive...." She trailed off for a moment. "Perhaps I'll even take the remote's batteries and put it to good use for something in my room. I'm sure batteries will come in handy later." After pausing for a minute she yawned and decided to try to keep some sort of conversation with the girl. "So why are you at Franklin High?" She asked.

Kit swung around slightly, sitting on the chair as if it was a large sofa. Letting her legs dangle over the edge and crossing them at the ankles. Musing slightly, at her feet, minus shoes, she decided at some point she should probably get some. It was an utterly pointless thought, but then she had been watching daytime TV a few minutes ago – she could be easily excused for pointless thoughts. Watch enough daytime TV you can be excused for a vegetable, so she let it slide.
Realising she was actually being talked to whilst she was musing about shoes and vegetables of all things she raised her head and muttered a non committal gesture in response, and tried to look as if she had been listening. People generally didn’t like it when you disappear into your own mind when they are trying to have a conversation with you.
“You never know – Batteries and something that needs them might actually liven the place up.” It took another few seconds for her brain to recognize a question directed at her. ”Family and the amazingly fun things they bring with them. she laughed with her head tilted back before recovering about 4 seconds later and returning to the conversation, ”You?”

After hearing her answer Emma sat up. She was starting to hurt her stomach by laying on it for so long. She considered moving to her back, but instead she just decided to sit "right", as her mother would say. Well, her mother wasn't here right now. She wasn't sitting up for her mother. She was sitting up because her stomach started to hurt. Smiling to herself because she had satisfied herself, she answered the girl on the chair's question.
"Oh... Well, it's complicated as to why I'm here", Emma replied. Taking a deep breath she kept on talking, "I was caught robbing someone's home. There's more, but I consider that the bulk of it. Sometimes I regret that day, because that was the day my best friend died. But I think I would have done it anyway. You can't change the past." She looked out the window again, and noticed a bird fly by the window. Lucky bird, she thought to herself.

Kit stretched, arching her back lightly before settling back down in her seat. This room was horrendously boring, so much in fact – it was making her tired. Damned, seemed all she was doing lately was sleeping. She’d have to make some form of effort to leave her room more often or people were going to start noticing that she ran there every time she’d been out of it for 5 minutes. Which would then bring back the constant talk of helping her overcome her agoraphobia. Which was not her definition of fun.
Yeah – I have no idea why anyone else would want to keep dwelling on the past and trying to change it. Completely futile. crossing her feet at the ankles, she angled herself so she was facing the girl again. ”How long you been here for?”

"Oh, I just got here a few days ago", Emma answered. She had gotten here a few days ago, but it felt like she has already been here for years. Her serving time has yet to be determined, based on her behavior from now until then. All that she knows is that it will be an extended amount of time. She wouldn't be going home anytime soon.
"It seems like you've been here a lot longer than I have", Emma commented. "I don't know why, but it just seems so. Have you?"
